Monday April 23, 2012
8:30 - 10:00am
Introduction and Welcome
Opening Keynote Presentation
Create a Vibrant Safety Culture
It’s the job of leaders in your organization to keep everyone engaged on safety issues, yet fatigue, apathy, and life stresses blur employees’ focus and block their attention. For many employees, safety is someone else’s problem, something easily taken for granted. And that’s an attitude that leads to accidents. Richard Hawk’s proven solution? Learn how to leverage the power of personal leadership, sell people on the benefits of your safety program, and keep everyone motivated and inspired. Create a vibrant safety culture that everyone buys in to.
Presented by Richard Hawk, Lewisville Texas
10:30 to 11:45am
Session 2A
Spice It Up: Easy Ways To Make Your Safety Program Come Alive
"Oh, no! Not another boring safety meeting.” Stop torturing your employees with the same old safety “blah, blah, blah”. Why not try something different? Bring new energy to your safety meetings with tips and techniques guaranteed to put a smile on everyone’s face. Teaching safe behavior doesn’t have to be bland and boring.
Presented by Richard Hawk, Lewisville Texas
Session 2B
Zombie Walkers: Are You Working Among the Living Dead?
The world is full of zombie walkers. You probably work with a few. The people that park in the same parking spot every day, have the same thing for lunch every day and when they get home from work they even don’t remember driving. These are the same kind of people that cause your recordable injury chart to look like the ascent of Everest. They can be seen walking through the facility with their safety glasses on their foreheads and respirators around their neck. Change is possible... but it requires change on your part first. You can’t roll out the same safety programs, the same policies, the same posters, the same boring training programs and expect anything different. This session will show creative programs, activities, incentives and concepts that have used by EH&S professionals from industries throughout North America. A great session for everyone.
Speaker: Steve Laughlin, CJ&K Training Services, Lindenhurst, Illinois
Session 2C
Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s) in Action
This action packed session will clarify the laws and liabilities surrounding AEDs and will provide you with information on how to implement an AED program in your workplace. Learn how easy it is to use an AED and see some of the common types of AEDs available on the market. If time permits, the session will end with a “Hands-on” opportunity for participants to use the AED equipment.
Speaker: Wendy Schultenkamper, Education Director, Lifesaving Society BC & Yukon Branch, Burnaby BC

This session is a great refresher for existing members and a wonderful introduction for people new to safety committees.
