October 16, 2009 -- Pacific Safety Center is Not Affected By Closure of BC Safety Council
We were saddened to hear today that our friends and
neighbours, the BC Safety Council, ceased operations as of 3pm
Thursday October 15. After over 60 years of service and dedication
to the cause of reducing injuries and accidents in BC the economic
climate proved too much for them to overcome. The work they have
done has saved countless lives and they deserve all our thanks. But there
has been some confusion about the closure of the BC Safety Council
and it is important to point out that
the Pacific Safety Center Ltd is not, and has never been, part
of the BC Safety Council. All Pacific Safety Center Ltd
programs, conferences and services are completely unaffected by
the closure of the BC Safety Council. The Safety Committee Conference,
running November 16, 2009 and the Western Conference on Safety,
running April 12 & 13, 2010 are both solely operated by the
Pacific Safety Center Ltd and will be running as normal.
April 9, 2009 -- This year's Western Conference
on Safety is now over.
With more than 30 sessions attended by over 630 delegates,
another 130 people attending the 4 post-conference courses, 200+
exhibit staff, 30 speakers, and 15 conference volunteers and staff
it was another busy conference. We haven’t finished
reviewing the participant evaluations yet, but so far it appears
the conference was another overwhelming success. Next years the
conference runs April 12-13. Hope to see you there!
Here are some "quotable quotes" that
we have heard at recent safety conferences and out in industry.
"We don't need a safety program, we're only 2 minutes from
the nearest hospital."

"There is no complex, complicated, difficult to understand problem that doesn't
have a simple, straightforward, wrong answer."
--Dr. Ray Baker, 1999 Safety Professionals Symposium, Vancouver BC
"Of course you can use frequency-severity figures to measure your firms safety
program, as long as you realize that in almost all instances these figures are
absolutely worthless."
--Dr. Dan Petersen 2000 Safety Professionals Symposium, Vancouver BC
