committee and your organization’s safety program. Topics include: Who is
responsible for safety on the worksite? What regulations should you know and
understand? If an accident happens will the safety committee be held responsible?
These and other important questions will answered during this look into workplace
safety.

individuals.

Member Needs to Know
Understand the various roles and responsibilities of the safety committee, the

to reduce accidents and injuries on your worksite. Also gain a basic understanding
of workplace safety programs.
Speaker: Isabel Krueger CRSP
Session 3A
Hazard Assessments (Made Easy)
(Double Block Session)
A fundamental concept in managing occupational health and safety is the recognition,
evaluation and control of hazards. Many organizations are making this a mandatory
activity for those involved in safety. This course will assist you in recognizing
workplace hazards, provide a simple tool for evaluating the risk these hazards
pose, and discuss common strategies for controlling hazards. It will also provide
a process to help you through the identification process for all activities in
the workplace.
Speaker: Jim Moroney CRSP
Session 3B
Accident Investigations for the Safety Committee
(Double Block Session)
Designed to guide you through one of the fundamental elements of safety. Covers
procedures for actions at accident sites, how to interview co-workers, how to
discover underlying root causes and develop effective recommendations to prevent
re-occurrence.
Speaker: Terry Duncan
Session 3W
Guide to Effective Safety Committees Skills
(Double Block Session)
This double block session covers the fundamental skills every safety committee
members needs to know. Provides an overview of worksite safety inspections, accident
investigations, recognizing system failures plus other vital information every
committee member needs to know.
Speaker: Isabel Krueger CRSP
Session 4A
Formal Inspections:
The Backbone of a Safety Program
Many of us conduct "informal" inspections as we do our
day-to-day work, fixing problems as we see them. FORMAL inspections
take a more structured look at things; they are designed to ensure
that our hazard control systems are working as intended. We will
consider why inspections are done; what is looked for; how we interpret
results and the best ways to document our findings.
Speaker: Jim Moroney CRSP
Session 5W
Persons taking sessions 1W, 2W and 3W inclusive may write the WorkSafe
exam. If they pass they will be awarded a WORKSAFE certificate
that demonstrates they have taken training that meets the criteria
WorkSafeBC has specified for safety committee training.
Course PC-1

Something Just For Supervisors!
Supervisors Safety Training (SST)
Supervisors are some of the most influential people in preventing
workplace injuries and accidents. If they understand their key roles
and have the specific skills needed to follow through on that understanding,
a safe worksite almost always follows. If they don’t, then
current studies show accidents and injuries usually occur. This jam
packed 1 day course guides your supervisor through the fundamentals
needed to supervise for safety on the job. Includes: What the regulatory
agencies expect of supervisors, understanding risk taking, how to
motivate for safety, how to interact with risk taking individuals,
key prevention activities for supervisors and much more.
